Tea sourcing journey through origin regions

Tea Sourcing Journey

Connect with the places, people, and practices that bring tea from distant hillsides to your cup

When you understand where tea comes from, every sip becomes richer

These virtual sessions bring you face-to-face with the actual locations, families, and methods that shape the teas you drink. You'll see the terraced hillsides, hear about harvest timing decisions, and taste teas while learning the specific conditions that created their character.

What emerges is a deeper sense of connection—not just to the beverage, but to the careful work and thoughtful choices that happen long before the leaves reach your teapot. This context transforms a simple routine into something that feels more meaningful and personal.

Perhaps tea feels anonymous to you

You pick up a package at the store, brew it at home, and enjoy the flavor—but there's a vague sense that you're missing part of the story. The words on the label mention regions or estates, yet these remain abstract concepts rather than real places with real people.

When friends talk about the "origin" of their coffee beans with genuine enthusiasm, you wonder if tea could offer that same kind of connection. You'd like to feel more invested in what you're drinking, to have a sense of where it came from and who was involved in bringing it to you.

But tracking down this information feels daunting. Travel to tea-growing regions isn't realistic for most schedules, and reading articles online only provides partial glimpses. You want something more direct, more personal, more tangible than what you've found so far.

Virtual visits that bring origin stories to life

Each 75-minute session focuses on a specific tea-growing region. Through visual presentations built from our own visits and ongoing relationships with producers, you'll see the actual landscapes where tea grows, meet the people who tend the plants, and learn about the particular challenges and advantages of each location.

We guide you through tastings of teas from that region while discussing what you're experiencing. The flavors become more distinct when you understand the soil composition, elevation, climate patterns, and processing choices that shaped them. What once seemed like subtle differences suddenly make sense.

These aren't lectures—they're conversations. You're welcome to ask questions, share observations, or explore tangents that interest you. The format stays flexible enough to follow your curiosity while providing structure that ensures you leave with substantive knowledge.

What these sessions feel like

Comfortable from Home

You join from wherever feels comfortable, with your own teaware and a selection we've sent ahead. The virtual format means you can participate in comfortable clothing, with your own preferred seating, without worrying about commute times or parking.

Visual Immersion

You'll see photographs and short videos from the actual tea gardens we're discussing. These aren't stock images—they're from our visits and relationships with the people who grow what we source. The visuals help you grasp the scale, beauty, and specific conditions of each location.

Guided Conversation

We move through the material at a pace that allows for questions and exploration. If something sparks your curiosity, we follow that thread. If a particular aspect feels confusing, we pause and approach it from a different angle. The structure serves you, not the other way around.

Tasting with Context

As we discuss each region, you'll taste representative teas while learning about the specific conditions that created their characteristics. This simultaneous sensory and intellectual experience helps the information stick in a way that reading alone never could.

How this approach helps you learn

Learning about tea origin works better when you can see the places and taste the results simultaneously. The visual component helps you grasp geography and conditions, while the tasting component makes the information concrete and memorable rather than abstract.

We've been conducting these sessions since November 2022, refining the format based on what participants find most valuable. The current structure emerged from noticing which questions arise most frequently and which types of information seem to stick best.

Most people report that after attending a session, they notice more when they drink tea from that region. The context we provide creates mental hooks that help you recognize and appreciate characteristics you might have overlooked before. This enhanced awareness tends to persist long after the session ends.

What you can expect afterward

  • Greater confidence in selecting teas from the featured region
  • Better ability to notice and describe flavor characteristics
  • Deeper appreciation for what goes into producing quality tea
  • Context that makes tea shopping feel less overwhelming

You're welcome to explore without commitment

If you attend a session and find it doesn't match what you were hoping for, we're happy to refund your investment within seven days. We'd rather you feel comfortable exploring than worry about making the wrong choice.

Before you register for a paid session, you're welcome to schedule a brief video call where we can discuss what you're curious about and whether this format suits your learning style. There's no obligation to book afterward—it's simply a chance to get your questions answered.

Some regions resonate more with certain people than others. If you're not sure where to start, we can suggest sessions based on your current tea preferences or what you're hoping to discover. The goal is helping you find meaningful connection, not filling seats.
